Are you experiencing difficulties in your coupleship? Before coming to couples counseling, couples may struggle with:
Miscommunication—feeling misunderstood or unheard
Conflicts, whether big or small, and feeling unable to solve the core issues
Disagreements and difficulty seeing “eye to eye” on making decisions
Feeling disconnected from one another
Anger and contempt for one another, though sometimes may be unsure why they feel angry with each other
Unhealthy relationship dynamics or cycles, feeling “codependent” on one another
Navigating differences or struggles with in-laws and family members
Challenges with parenting
Feeling invalidated by one another, often inadvertently
Feeling unappreciated
Broken trust
Lack of intimacy
Feeling lonely even though your partner is still there
With support in couples counseling, couples may then be able to experience:
Greater empathy for one another
Feeling truly heard, understood, and respected
Feeling that you have each other’s backs in every challenging situation
Improved communication by learning and practicing new skills and tools
“Fair fighting” in conflicts (no relationship will ever be without conflict—having disagreements can be healthy, because you are still two different people!)
Improved emotional, physical and/or sexual intimacy
Resilience and strength as a couple
Acceptance of yourself and your partner regardless of what you have been through
Greater trust between each other
Shared values and improved decision-making
Hope for the coupleship and for the future
Why seek help for your challenges in your coupleship from Kim?
Kim has experience working with couples from diverse backgrounds, including multicultural/multiracial, blended families, and queer couples, and has helped couples to address a broad range of issues from money, sex, addiction, life transitions, conflict, and extended family/family of origin. No issue is considered “taboo” or is off the table! Kim also works with couples who have been affected by sexual issues, including sexual compulsivity (also may be referred to as sex addiction, porn addiction, hypersexuality, or love addiction), betrayal trauma, and infidelity.
Kim’s expertise as a trauma specialist also extends to the couples that she has supported, as one or both members of a coupleship may struggle with trauma symptoms, including PTSD, that affect the coupleship.
